BLUE RIDER DESIGN, based in Portland, Oregon and managed by Caleb Sayan, houses and maintains an international collection of over 40,000 textiles and original artwork. In 2009, the studio began the process of photographing and digitizing the entire collection to provide greater acces- sibility. Presenting our paper on digital textile archives in U.S. at the Pasold's conference at Goldsmith University in London was an incredible experience. We met some amazing like minded textile professionals and got some really positive feedback about our talk and the textile archive project. Thank you so much for organizing such a wonderful event and thank you to my co-presenter Annin Barrett.

We were honored to host a tour of our archive and participate in the Museums and the Web 2013 conference held in Portland. It was a terrific experience; we met many talented individuals and institutions working on inspiring projects.




Jan. 15th, 2013

We are thrilled to announce the addition of over 14,000 newly digitized items to the textile archive bringing the entire contents to over 40,000 fully searchable items in our application. It is a tremendous feeling to fulfill our original goal of digitizing and cataloging the collection; we are now working to achieve our second mission to make the archive accessible and should have more exciting news later in the year.

Archive Opening Reception

Views from the opening of the new studio. It felt amazing to to finally have the textiles showcased and viewable. It was a great evening and nice to see familiar faces as well as introduce new ones to the collection. Next big milestone will be presenting our project at an archiving conference in June.
